Theory-Answers

(1&2)

(1a)
Qd= 40-4p

TABULATE
P: 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1
Qd: 0, 8,16, 24, 32, 36

When price = 10
Qd= 40-4(10)=0

When price= 8
Qd= 40-4(8)= 8

When price= 6
Qd= 40-4(6)= 16

When price= 4
Qd= 40-4(4) = 24

When price= 2
Qd= 40-4(2)= 32

When price= 1
Qd= 40-4(1)= 36

(1b)

(1c)
The slop of the curve indicate that the quantity demanded has negative correlation with price. The higher the price the lower the quantity demanded and vice versa
=====================================

(2a)
Tabulate

Output; 1|2|3|4|5|6|

TR; 20|30|60|80|120|150|

TC; 40|50|60|80|110|120|

MR; _, 10|30|20|40|30|

AR; 20|15|20|20|24|25|

MC; _|10|10|20|30|10|

MR = ∆inTR/∆inQ
TR2 – TR1/Q2 – Q1

For (1) MR = 0

For (2) MR = 30-20/2-1 = ₦10

For (3) MR = 60-30/3-2 = ₦30

For (4) MR = 80-60/4-3 = ₦20

For (5) MR = 120-80/5-4 = ₦40

For (6) MR = 150-120/6-5 = ₦30

MC = TC2 – TC1/Q2 – Q1

For (1) MC = 40 – 0/1 – 0 = ₦40

For (2) MC = 50 – 40/2 – 1 = ₦10

For (3) MC = 60 – 50/3 – 2 = ₦10

For (4) MC = 80 – 60/4 – 3 = ₦20

For (5) MC = 110 – 80/5 – 4 = ₦30

For (6) MC = 120 – 110/6 – 5 = ₦10

For AR=TR/Q

For (1) AR=20/1=20
For (2) AR=30/2=15
For (3) AR=80/4=20
For (4) AR=120/5=24
For (5) AR=150/6=25

(2b)
The conditions necessary for profit maximization are:
(i) Expand output if MR>MC
(ii)Reduce output if MC>MR
(iii)profit maximization adjust the date of production to the point where MR=MC

(3i)
Frequency distribution table refers to the table that shows the items and the number of times they occur in a given distribution. We have grouped Frequency distribution table and ungrouped frequency distribution table. Eg of grouped distribution table is below

TABULATE
X: 2 | 3 | 5 | 6 | 8
F: 1 | 2 | 4 | 8 | 2

The table above shows the shows the score sheet of (17) students from maths test.

(3ii)
Standard deviation is the square of variation.
For example
SD= ∑f(x−x)²/∑f

(3iii)
Range: This refers to the highest number of items and the lowest in a given set distribution e.g from the above table
The Range= 8-2= 6

(3iv)
Table: This can be defined as the logical and systematic arrangements of data in rolls and columns . Eg Below are numbers of students and their scores in economics test.

Number one f students: 2 | 6 | 8 | 9

Marks: 4 | 5 | 2 | 6

Tax: A tax is a compulsory levy imposed by a public authority against which tax payers cannot claim anything. It is not imposed as a penalty for only legal offence. The essence of a tax, as distinguished from other charges by the government, is the absence of a direct quid pro quo (i.e., exchange of favour) between the tax payer and the public authority.

(5ii)
Rates: Rates refer to local taxation, i.e., taxation levied by (or for) local rather than central government. Normally rates are proportional to the estimated rentable value of business and domestic properties. Rates are often criticised as being unrelated to income.

(5iii)
Surplus of the public sector units: The government acts like a business- person and the public acts like its customers. of resources needed to keep so many people alive. Food, water and fossil fuels are all being consumed at record rates, placing greater demands on producers and the planet itself.

problems in the future.

(v) Overpopulation Could Lead to a Food Shortage: While the population has been rising as a result of increased food production, this production has limits. More mouths need to be fed. (i)Trade Policy Measures: Expanding, Exports and Restraining Imports: this method can be used to correct unfavorable balance payment by Trade policy measures to improve the balance of payments refer to the measures adopted to promote exports and reduce imports. Exports may be encouraged by reducing or abolishing export duties and lowering the interest rate on credit used for financing exports. Exports are also encouraged by granting subsidies to manufacturers and exporters. Besides, on export earnings lower income tax can be levied to provide incentives to the exporters to produce and export more goods and services.

(ii)Expenditure and Switching Policies Devaluation: this significant method which is quite often used to correcting unfavorable balance of payment is the use of expenditure-switching policies. Expenditure switching policies work through changes in relative prices. Prices of imports are increased by making domestically produced goods relatively cheaper. In other words Expenditure switching policies may lower the prices of exports which will encourage exports of a country. In this way by changing relative prices, expenditure-switching policies help in correcting unfavorable Balance of payment.

(iii)Exchange Control: it is all the exporters are ordered to surrender their foreign exchange to the central bank of a country and it is then rationed out among the licensed importers.
